I never read this book once, it was always twice。 At least。 And it often ended in tears。This was my daughter's favourite book when she was a toddler and we read it to her every day。 At least for twenty years, or so it feels。 Today I heard of the death of its author, Eric Carle, which is very sad news。 A little spooky too, as I was thinking about reviewing this book for no other reason than it caught my eye there on our bookshelf。The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a very simple but clever story about I never read this book once, it was always twice。 At least。 And it often ended in tears。This was my daughter's favourite book when she was a toddler and we read it to her every day。 At least for twenty years, or so it feels。 Today I heard of the death of its author, Eric Carle, which is very sad news。 A little spooky too, as I was thinking about reviewing this book for no other reason than it caught my eye there on our bookshelf。The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a very simple but clever story about - a hungry caterpillar。 It starts where he hatches from his egg and looks for food。 It is a brightly coloured board book with pages of different sizes and holes eaten out by the hungry caterpillar。 To a small child it is mesmerising。 We see the caterpillar grow bigger and follow his life cycle and the process is accurately portrayed in simple language。 There are lots of foods illustrated from fruit to ice cream and it is a memory game to recount everything he eats during the week。It was this huge list of foods that had this lovely book banned in the early 2000s。 Libraries in Hertfordshire thought it was going against the government's healthy eating campaign。 They need not of worried though。 If they read through the book they would see that the caterpillar felt sick and felt better after he ate a green leaf。 Thankfully, everyone has come to their senses now。 The book has been reissued several times in board, paper, ebook, audio and DVD and I expect another publication will be on its way。It is an educational book to help children count, read, speak, identify colours and items, and learn about diet (yes, okay), growth and change。 More than this it is fun, encourages bonding and is the essence of childhood。Thank you Eric Carle。 。。。more
Anne El-Kasrawi,
Eric Carle passed away not a day ago。 I just read that he fought for the Caterpillar's right to eat and indulge without getting a stomachache and that realizing it's instincts helped it grow into a better being。 Too bad society has to force us all into the same cube, and all our natural instincts need to be thwarted。 Eric Carle passed away not a day ago。 I just read that he fought for the Caterpillar's right to eat and indulge without getting a stomachache and that realizing it's instincts helped it grow into a better being。 Too bad society has to force us all into the same cube, and all our natural instincts need to be thwarted。 。。。more

Nigel Farage,
Incredibly atrocious fan made fiction of Boris Sussy Johnson's most disturbing eating habits at Greggs。 Most sus, indeed。It has been made abundantly clear through multiple interviews with Bossah that upon the consumption of those sweet, delectable sticky buns, he undergoes a most painful transformation into a beautiful Brexit supporting butterfly。Not very chungus, would not read。sincerely,Nigel Pool Farage xx(p。s: that's what your mum said last night) Incredibly atrocious fan made fiction of Boris Sussy Johnson's most disturbing eating habits at Greggs。 Most sus, indeed。It has been made abundantly clear through multiple interviews with Bossah that upon the consumption of those sweet, delectable sticky buns, he undergoes a most painful transformation into a beautiful Brexit supporting butterfly。Not very chungus, would not read。sincerely,Nigel Pool Farage xx(p。s: that's what your mum said last night) 。。。more
Taylor Armey,
Eric Carle is one of my favorite illustrators and I love this book of his very much! I remember reading this book with my cousins when I was younger。 This book shows the caterpillar hatching and getting bigger throughout the book。 It shows the caterpillar eating its way through the food on the pages。 This book is cute for children to see all the different foods the caterpillar is eating。 I love how this book has many different colors and includes nature。
Sami Pratt,
A classic book that has been known by all! This book incorporates math, fruit, and nature/animals, and science。 The process of how caterpillars evolve。 Counting what the caterpillar eats each day。 The illustrations are bright and colorful, very appealing to any age kid。 Repetition of some words to get kids familiar with sounds and meaning。 “The Very Hungry Caterpillar story is about hope。 You, like the little caterpillar, will grow up, unfold your wings and fly off into the future。”
Reece McAra,
10/10 this caterpillar is hungry。

A very problematic biography of transformation written by a white cis-male。 I wish i had the energy and determination to research this adequately and fill in the holes left by the erasing gaze of the author。
